ANZ today officially opened its new flagship branch and Papua New Guinea headquarters in Port Moresby’s Harbour City precinct. The branch features ANZ’s new global brand and will provide customers with more modern and convenient facilities.

Chief Executive Officer North West Pacific Garry Tunstall said investment in the new facility at Harbour City further underscored ANZ’s long term commitment to PNG and the Pacific. “Our new premises provides us with the capacity, resources and infrastructure to meet the forecast growth in the PNG market.

We expect PNG’s gross domestic product to grow by 5% in 2009 and 6.5% in 2010, which compares favourably to economic predictions for other global markets. ”The new Harbour City branch features secure deposit facilities and accessible parking to provide convenient banking for customers in a welcoming environment.

We also have four ATMs located onsite that customers can access from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. “Customers will also notice our new global brand that includes a refined wordmark (ANZ) and a symbol – the Lotus. The Lotus symbolises unity and growth, which is relevant for our customers across the region regardless of differences in language and culture.

Papua New Guinea was chosen as one of the first countries to launch the brand to the world, reflecting ANZ’s focus on investing in Asia Pacific. The brand will be introduced at other PNG branches and across Asia Pacific in the next few months as part of ANZ’s strategy to become a super regional bank,” Mr Tunstall said.

The Governor of PNG’s Central Bank, Sir Wilson L Kamit CBE Kt., officially opened the building, which will be the new workplace for approximately 250 ANZ head office staff. “Staff moved into the new building on Monday and they’re already enjoying working in one of the best office spaces in PNG,” Mr Tunstall said. “We are the first corporate company to move into Harbour City, so it’s certainly an exciting time for us and for our customers.”

Construction on the building started in May 2007 and more than 400 people were employed during the construction phase. Most products for the building were sourced from PNG and ANZ is committed to limiting imports on future projects. ANZ staff will welcome customers at the new Harbour City branch when it opens to the public from 8:45am, Monday 27 July 2009.

Opening hours are: 8:45am to 3pm Monday to Thursday and 8:45am to 4pm on Friday. ANZ has 13 branches and 48 ATMs in PNG and more than 450 people are employed by ANZ in PNG. Harbour City is a new waterfront business estate located approximately two kilometres from central Port Moresby.

The precinct is expected to grow significantly in the next few years.
